Reflection

Time has pass and I do not realize this is almost the end of Issues in Publication and Design. Since I studied this subject I know how make a good blog.  I cannot put something that I do not like or can offence culture of other people, and putting inappropriate material is not necessary (Britishcouncil 2012). Image and text are playing an important role in the blog. According to Schiver (1997), people can understand the meaning of a blog or article due to the combination of text and image. Reader can understand the meaning of the text by looking to the image and the other way round. According to Kress (1998), framing is one of the crucial points in designing a blog. I had to choose a combination of color and background. A good combination of color and background could make people more interested to read our blog.
In the end I had learn lot of information in from this subject. I hope all of the lesson that I got can be used in next semester and in my working life. Special thanks to Miss. Jenny for all the lesson, her guide, and her patience in teaching me.

Every day I spend more than 5 hours in front of my laptop or hand phone. Looking for new information and playing social media are my favorite activity. For me it is easier for looking information by using Web 3.0. According to Shedrake (2011), Web 3.0 is about the Web understanding the meaning of all the content and web become a universal medium for the exchange of data, information and knowledge. Google, and wiki are the example of web 3.0.
During the demonstration issues in Tunisia and Egypt, it is difficult for reporter or journalist to reporting or looking for information because they were attacked and their police took their equipment. According to Johnson (2011), CNN reporter Anderson Cooper and crew was attacked by protesters when they were looking for information in Egypt. The video can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjLVNzxU5_4. The video gives a better understanding due to combination of audio and visual. Beside Anderson there were other reporter that captured by police such as Mohamed Effat (Daily News), Jack Shenker (Guardian), Amru Salaheddin (Al-Ashy) and many more (Reporters without borders 2011). People can read or watch information about the accident due to the hard effort and the toil of citizen journalist. Citizen journalism refers to a wide range of activities in which everyday people contribute information or commentary about news event (Educause 2007). Citizen journalism posted the information such as video and picture in a social media such as Facebook. Social media provides a way for people to share ideas or content online, and it social media can take the form of text, image, video, images, and community (Scott 2010).

According to Gordon 2009, Citizen journalist can be success even they are not same like professional journalist. Citizen journalist can publish information from combination of image and text that professional journalist missed or do not know. They also can success in old and new media.
Everyone can write as a citizen journalist and looking for any information in Web 3.0 Combination of image, text and reliable content can make people feel secure and interesting when read the information.

Forbidden books

Do you think sex is a taboo word? The level of children curiosity is increasing rapidly when they are in puberty session. According to Salhan (2011), puberty is defined as ‘The period during which adolescents reach sexual maturity and become capable of reproduction’. Children want to know more about aspect of life such as sex. Book, article, friend, parents, and Internet are the place where they can gain or find information about sex.
“Where did I come from?” is a book that could help parents on giving a better education about sex education to their children. Peter Mayle is the author of this book and it was published for the first time in 1984. Malaysia Home Minister had banned this book from sale in 2012. According to Ahmad (2012), Abdul Rahim said the minister was taking action under Section 7, Subsection 1 of the Printing Presses and Publication Act 1984 for this issue. This book was banned due to complaints from public, the content of this book can bring harm to the society (naked picture), and it is easy for children to buy this book. In 1985, Howie Mandel played as an actor in “where did I come from?”
According to Southard (1966), parents are shock when young people are thinking and talking about sex. The majority of Asian parents do not give a better sex education to their children because they find it as a taboo or forbidden word. In my opinion, parents do not have to shy or shock when their children talk about sex. They have to be open-minded and share information or experience to their children.

Every author has to follow content regulation when they are writing. Content regulation for publications serves to reflect community standard (Media Development Authority, 2011). Section 211 of the Communications and Multimedia Act prohibits Content that is indecent for example: sex and nudity (The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Content Code 2012). Banning this book is the right action because contain of this book is not suitable with culture of Malaysia society and it does not follow Malaysia content regulation. Combination image and words in the book give a better understanding when children read the article.
