Blogging Community

Blogging Community And Type of Blogging Community

Blogosphere can be used as a place for blogging community to shared similarity. So, what is blogging community? According to Nelson (2010), blogging community is people connect with one another online, people congregate in cyberspace, bound together by interests or causes. Bloggers can create a community if there is some of people who chat and share a similar interest together in a blog.
According to White(2006), there are 3 type of blogging community such as: Blogger Centric Community, The Central Connecting, and the boundaried community.

One person or organization can own this blogs. The owner can set certain rules or norms in this blogs. The central idea of this blog is to communicate, build a relationship with other people, and brings people together.

2. Central Connecting Topic Community

Central Connecting Topic Community is more to network structure than community structure. This community can be created when there are several people share similar topic or interest. An individual still has to maintain their blog, and a link to other blog can be found here.

3. Boundaried Community.

The biggest power in this community is in the owner. Owner can make a several rules for all the bloggers. Members have to join, register, and make a blog if he/she wants. MySpace, Yahoo 360, and Share Your Story are several tools that can make the member closer.

I will use Malaysia Food, Travel, and Tourism Blogs. (www.vkong.com)
In this blogspot, Central Connecting Topic Community is applied. This blog is giving information about food around Malaysia. People with similar interest and hobby will go this blogs . People could leave comment and choose what kind of food does they want to know as well.

Classification of blogs

BLOGS. Generally when people heard about blogs, they will have perception blog is a place where people tell their story Blogger can share information, opinions, knowledge, promote product and services as well by using blogs (Blick, 2011)

According to interview of Margaret Simons by Funnell in 2008 about “A Taxonomy of Blog”, there are 9 classification of blogs based on the function.

- Pamphleteering blogs: In this blogs individual or group of individual can put a brief essay or expressing a strong point from them. Pamphleteering also known as political blog.
Digest blogs: This is a blog where the author collects information from the mainstream media, or blogs. And there is links for the source.
Advocacy blogs: Almost same like pamphleteering blogs and it is pushing some point of view on certain issues.
Popular Mechanics blogs: Give information on how to do something, and how the things work.
Exhibition blogs: A place where you can find poetry, blogs, and picture. Artists or writers maintain this blogs.
Gatewatcher blogs: Group of people who gives attentions to the media.
Diary: Place where people share their experience and story.
Advertisement blogs: Place to promote company or product.
News: Find and publish the news to society.
On the other hand, according to Cesario (2011), there are several classification of blogs such as: diary/personal, informative/tips, travel/experience, food, inspirational, review, and celebrity or fashion blogs. On my opinion, there are similar category that is same from Funnell and Nicky. But classification from Funnell is better than Nicky because the classifications give specific information and already include a wider range for all blogs in Internet.
